The Shift

After injuring my back while living in Miami (hazard of being a visual stylist) and moving to Baltimore to rehab my back for a few months, my childhood best friend offered me a stay at her ranch for a much-needed sabbatical. Packing for a trip has always been exciting to me, however packing for six months was frightening. As I thought of not seeing the entirety of my wardrobe for another six months, I could feel the beads of sweat starting to form on my brow. I, of course, packed the obvious for California countryside life: blanket coats, cowboy boots, & comfy knits… but I couldn’t leave behind the prints & bold colored garments I had just added to my collection from Miami. I figured for my next style phase I would step into the shoes of Jane Birkin if she was stranded in the middle of the Italian countryside with her suitcases still full from a trip to South Beach…

The shift dress is one of my favorite shapes for spring & summer; the ease of the style and comfort in the fit can be worn dressed up or down. I found this leaf print scuba knit dress on one of my many afternoons walking on Lincoln Rd. at Forever 21 and could not resist the print and the neoprene feel of the fabric.

I spent the day today catching up on digital copies of my favorite magazines, drinking a perfectly chilled bottle of local rosé, on the southwest corner of the property where the pond ends.

My vintage snakeskin boots were essential in navigating the swampy turf near the pond and gave my Miami shift a little bit of country edge; The Simon Ju earrings tied both worlds together with the natural beauty of white coral. I am looking forward to many afternoons drinking rosé in this spot the next few months.
