Loafers & Lanterns

img_2235img_2256img_2248img_2276It has been much too long since I have sat down in front of my computer and written a blog post. It seems as though I sneezed and summer was already over and it is time for my annual pumpkin carving party and a slue of costume parties I am preparing “looks” for.
With the change of the seasons comes changes to trends and as I unpack my Autumn wardrobe I eagerly pull out pieces that are fitting with some of my favorite trends this season. A nod to the Gucci Princetown’s we have seen all over, I decided to dust off my Stuart Weitzman silver loafers to pair with a cream and metallic mini that is reminiscent of something Leandra Medine might wear to her office. In effort of changing things up I also decided to wear my sweater tucked into my skirt, defining my waistline a bit more. Paired with a navy handkerchief and a leather clutch I was prepared for my day of meetings and running errands at the local farms.
Being in trend does not require one to go out and purchase a slew of new clothing but being creative with what you have and transitioning each piece to those we saw on the runways. My metallic skirt, which was originally a long A-line cut got a makeover last week by chopping it into a mini.

SS17 NYFW EDITION

SS17 seems to be bringing around the usual suspects: stripes, pops of color, and flowy dresses, but this season there was a touch of femme fatal thrown into the mix. Models paraded down the runway this season in looks that mimic those of our favorite bloggers, off the shoulder pieces, mix matched patterns, and ruffles galore. The looks were playful, often not the case in a time of uncertainty with our electoral campaigns upon us. Fashion took the seriousness away and brought us back to a period where playful is the theme of the season.

I remember in high school I had a history teacher that always allowed me to write my papers on how fashion mimics the economy. We started to see this reflection with athleisure taking the fashion world by storm last season; A more casual, understated look. So, you can imagine how excited I was to see designers using fresh and bright textiles rather than the demure colors. While some collections were just that, drab, thankfully there were a handful of designers that stayed true to spring/ summer and kept that feeling of a luxe resort look for SS17.

As the London shows start, I hope we see even brighter avant-garde looks parading down the runway for me to report on!

Bohéme in boemo

One of the many reasons I love shopping at Klozet is the access to brands that are hard to find on my side of the coast of California or anywhere for that matter. The second Christine Caria pulled out the new piece by boemo, my heart started to flutter as this dress is everything I want out of a dress. It can be worn day or night, sexy but still covered, a unique and beautiful print… I do! Having worked in visuals for years, I love a well designed department store, however, when I’m looking for new labels nothing beats a well curated boutique. Shopping becomes an adventure for me when I walk into a store and see labels I’ve not heard of yet or are from abroad and hard to find.
boemo a brand new collection (launched this year) from Los Angeles is for “THE URBAN BOHÉME WITH A ROMANTIC SPIRIT IN LIFE AND STYLE.” Looking through the collection of flirty feminine pieces, I would agree that this line embraces the quintessential California look.

CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE

Concourse 2Concourse 6 (1)Concourse 10Councourse 8Every August I wait in anticipation for the roar of supercars to glid along my beautiful coastal town and with the supercars comes a crowd that has as big of an appreciation for luxury goods as I do. From Ferrari’s to Pagain’s these sexy powerful pieces of art can all be viewed at the multiple events held during Concours d’Elegance. For decades now cars and fashion have had a synergy as they both are capable of telling a visual story people swoon over. And it’s no surprise that many of these automobile companies have broken into other areas of the luxury sector (like watches for example) to further their brand following.

Growing up watching my brother and his friends tinker with their Porches, BMW’s, LandRovers… I couldn’t help but develop a curiosity and a love for speed and cars. Over the years I found myself often incorporating cars with my shoots for editorials and marketing campaigns, like the shoot I did for Pacific Gypsea in Gordon McCalls personal garage. While it is doubtful I will see Naeem Khan gowns like mine grazing the grass at most of the outdoor events this week, we will see some looks that are worthy of your Pinterest streetstlye board. This weeks not to miss events:

McCall Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Center

The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering at the Quail Lodge

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach

And a slew of private parties that are worth the traffic if you are lucky enough to get an invite…

When I was younger, every year I would take a trip with my Mom to Carmel and as I would hold her hand walking down the streets, usually after having a wonderful lunch at Casanovas and shopping at one of my favorite stores, GBG, I remember truly feeling blessed. Not just to have such a kind and loving Mother but one who always encouraged my love of fashion and taking me to stores like GBG.

With one of the best curated collections of brands like Isabel Marant Etoile, Calypso, and Jerome Dryfuss (to name a few) the beautifully decorated store is one I can spend hours in. Essentially they have managed to design a space that is similar to the visions I have of my dream closet. An entire room filled with a style that is resort meets luxury city weekender. The style is pretty much the look I aspire to rock every day. It is almost impossible to leave this store without one piece that will probably make you wonder how you survived without it.

Pretty Pleats

IMG_5998IMG_6056IMG_6064My memories of pleats are not just limited to my St. Joseph’s uniform, I have precious memories of watching my mother pleat her saris and elegantly drape the gorgeous silks over her shoulder. My love for pleats has always grazed my wardrobe with some version of a pleated skirt or blouse.
On last weeks shoot for Klozet, I couldn’t resist throwing on this gorgeous, femme fatal piece by Laila Azhar. Running around the property, barefoot with a piece from Shirley and my Men’s line, Pacific G., I felt free and feminine. Pleats are one of those trends you can basically wear year round and remain a classic. Here are some other nonconventional and classic pleats I love Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 3.24.23 PM

Not So Mellow Yellow

IMG_4711IMG_4718IMG_4693IMG_4662IMG_4754Stripes are not just to express your love for anything nautical or Persian anymore. I have spotted the mixing of stripes on some of my favorite street starlets mixing this pattern for a mesmerizing look. It’s definitely bold and a statement that you are making when you mix two completely different stripes, but I find that if there is ever a time to be adventurous with your wardrobe it’s during the summertime and on a Friday! While looking through my striped pieces this morning I choose a comfortable jersey dress with beautiful draping and a vintage sweater to create my look.

I’m sure most of you are actually experiencing summer weather; as I have mentioned many, many times in the last few weeks, the fog has decided to hug the West Coast of California for what seems like moths now. Meaning, you would be insane to leave your bungalow without a sweater. Not to fret, for your resort wear you can easily accomplish this look with opposing stripes in lighter materials. I think they key is to have one color in your stripes that ties both pieces together. Here are some pictures for inspiration to help you bring out the bold stripes in your wardrobe:

The Food & Drink Of The Gods

Screen Shot 2016-06-27 at 3.43.38 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-27 at 3.40.40 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-27 at 3.47.17 PMMost of my weekends tend to be about comfort as part of owning a business means working 7 days a week (and with my back as I’ve mentioned many times now) I tend to live in cashmere sweaters and joggers. While I did do a fair amount of work, this last weekend was a bit more “wild” than normal with an impromptu party on my stoop, which has been named “Le Stoop”, a lovely date, and a very disappointing and emotional soccer match. With a weekend like that it was safe to say I woke up wanting not just the comfort of clothing but comfort food as well.
I am asked quite frequently what my favorite Indian restaurant is, which was always so impossible to answer as I was spoiled with a Mom who cooked like an Indian chef. But, since her passing, I do seek out Indian restaurants more than I used to as it is definitely one of my versions of comfort food. So of course, after a busy morning as we are uploading new products to the Pacific Gypsea website, my business partner and I thought it best to have a much needed Lychee Martini lunch at Ambrosia India Bistro. How could we not pick a restaurant whose name, in Hindi, translates to the food and drink of the Gods in Hindu mythology?
Outfitted in a very comfy pair of silk pants and a vest to hide the amount of food I was prepared to consume from the buffet, my Monday thankfully turned out to not just be about the comfort of my clothing but comfort of food as well. Which growing up in my household was very important and remains that way.
Ambrosia was everything I could have asked for out of an Indian restaurant; for a moment I felt like I could walk past the green gates of their outdoor garden/ eating area and I would be dodging scooters and rickshaws in Bombay after my meal. Every bit as traditional as most Indian restaurants but with a unique ambiance, I would recommend this restaurants location to anyone looking to spice up their palates while on the Central Coast of California. The pictures above are mixed with pictures from my last trip to India as my after lunch siesta had me dreaming about going to my mother’s land.

Klozet

After spending the afternoon looking through the amazing collection of brands Christine and her business partner have filled the store with (including Pacific Gypsea) we headed over to Bar Bocci for some delicious pizza and Arnold Palmers while watching a competitive game of bocci ball with a pretty epic view. Of course, a trip to Sausalito is also not complete without a stop at the Trident to have a drink at Janis Joplin’s booth. I am really looking forward to the official opening of Klozet as it is sure to provide endless options of new pieces whenever I am staying at my Dad’s in San Francisco and need a little retail therapy over the bridge.
This morning after finishing up some work, I threw on a simple gray jersey dress with my riding boots (which come in very handy when roaming the beautiful 65 acres of the ranch) and got in the car to drive to my Stepmom’s very quiet and peaceful birthday celebration at their ranch. As everyone is taking siestas and waiting for it to cool down before we head out to hike around the property I am quickly writing a post as I am sure to do a few photoshoots the next couple days. This is exactly what I needed after a crazy month, a peaceful break in a country setting. A few relaxing days and then back to the coast for what should be another crazy month (in a great way) of course. New clients, traveling… I am really looking forward to this summer.

Bring Out The Coats

Screen Shot 2015-10-28 at 2.06.23 PM

There are so many reasons to love fall, the leaves changing color, the start to the holiday season, and my annual tradition of bringing out my coats and reintroducing them into my wardrobe. Trench, Anorak, Duster, Chesterfield, Bolero, the possibilities for lengths and shapes of coats and jackets are endless, which may make buying a coat a bit challenging. A few tips and tricks I give my clients when transitioning their wardrobes from summer to fall:
